Partnership in Pakistan’s largest container terminal with DP World, the worlds second biggest terminal operator.
The Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT) was conceptualized in the early nineties, in response to a tender that was floated by the Government of Pakistan, for the construction and operation of what would be the country very first Dedicated International Container Terminal, to be built at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim on a build/own/operate basis. The concession was awarded to the P&O Ports group in 1995 for a period of 30 years and the terminal commenced operations on August 10, 1997. In 2006, when P&O Ports was bought over by DP World globally, QICT was added to the DP World portfolio in Subcontinent Region. QICT is Pakistan’s leading container terminal operator handling a majority of the country trade
The company also operates an off dock facility in Karachi city called the NLC Container Terminal situated at Mai Kolachi. The total area of the facility is 10 acres and has a capacity to handle 4000 TEUs per month. With the NLC Container Terminal, QICT is the only terminal operator in Pakistan that has taken services beyond the terminal gates into the customers logistics chain.
QICT is located in Port Qasim at a distance of 50kms from the center of Karachi (Pakistan’s economic capital and most populous city). Port Qasim encompasses a total area of 12,000 acres wherein many industrial zones are operating. The container terminal owned by QICT is closer to vital up-country markets due to its location in the aforementioned Port. 70% of Pakistan’s exports are originated from the interior of Pakistan. Being at a strategic location 15 km from the National highway makes QICT very well connected with the Hinterland through road and with a 14 km railway link inside the terminal to the National railway network through 6 railway tracks customers avail a very convenient connection into the country.
